EXPLAINED TOURIST ZONES La
Quebrada. Intrepid divers offer daily spectacles at 1.00 pm, 7.30, 8.30,
9.30 and 10.30 pm. Historical Museum of the Saint Diego Fort.
Constructed in 1616 to defend the Harbor from Pirate Attacks, now-a days this
architectonic jewel has 12 permanent exhibitions rooms where there are kept a
big collection of pieces and objects brought from Asia and Europe by the Chinese
Galleon. Naval Historic Museum. Located in the city center,
the Naval Historic Museum of Acapulco holds great part of the history and culture
of the Harbor, as was the main commercial harbor of the Pacific Coast. This Museum
shows plans, materials and techniques used in the construction of the original
ships. Also it contains a reference library specializing in maritime themes.
Roquet Isle. Also typical in Acapulco is to travel in boats with
bottom of glass, which take you the Roquet Isle and on the way, you have the opportunity
to enjoy the maritime fauna and flora as well as the statue of the submerged Virgin.
The Roquet Isle beaches are also recommended to practice scuba diving and snorkeling.
Archaeological
Area of Palma Sola. Located on the mountains surrounding the harbor, this
area shows an interesting series of stone carved with images representing human
figures and several rituals. The place was used by ancient tribes as a ceremonial
center. The Papagayo Park Considered as a natural
protected area, it has 3 artificial lakes and sportive and entertainment areas.
Diego Rivera Mural. Located in Traditional Acapulco Zone en the
House of Dolores Olmedo, close friend of the Mexican painter. On the facade of
this house you can appreciate a beautiful mural made with mosaics, shells and
other multicolored stones. The Mask House. This place offers
the opportunity to discover Guerreros Culture by the multicolored masks
made by Mexican artists. In some towns of the State of Guerrero, the mask is closely
related to dances and traditions and is considered one of the richest expressions
of the popular art of Guerrero. The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Loneliness.
Located in the Zócalo, and constructed in 1930, the Cathedral is decorated
with a dome in the style of the Byzantine mosques and towers. The
Peace Chapel. This marvelous chapel has been converted into one of the
landmarks of modern Acapulco and it is characterized by a large white cross that
can be seen from any point of the city. The site is ecumenical, as any person
regardless of their religion, can celebrate a ceremony in this magnificent place.
Botanic Garden This beautiful place lodges a great quantity of
native plants and its main purpose is to preserve the biodiversity and keep the
natural fauna and flora of the zone. Beaches Acapulco offers
12 miles of beaches to enjoy the golden sand, from Barra Vieja and Revolcadero
to the famous and familiar Caleta and Caletilla. Other
