Natural and Urban Landscape
Even though Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende are both classified as “Colonial Cities”, they are quite different. Guanajuato’s climate is semi-arid whereas the climate in San Miguel is temperate and more humid. The topography is also different: Guanajuato is set in a ravine and San Miguel is built on a plain, which adds a touch of variety to an incentive trip.

Shopping and Art
San Miguel de Allende has specially good shopping as does Dolores Hidalgo, a town midway between San Miguel and Guanajuato, that is famous for the talavera ceramics made there.
San Miguel has two of the best art institutes in México, one public “Centro Cultural el Nigromante”, known also as “Bellas Artes” (fine arts) and one private “Instituto Allende” incorporated to the University of Guanajuato “Instituto Allende” founded in 1950. There are 40 Art Galleries with different artistic styles.

Nightlife and Shows
Nightlife is concentrated in San Miguel, especially on weekends. There are a number of discotheques and restaurants that open until the early hours of the morning. Nights in Guanajuato tend to be quieter.

Unique Attractions
Guanajuato´s Calendar
The Cervantino festival, which honors Miguel de Cervantes, author of Don Quixote, is Guanajuato’s major event, although we don’t suggest scheduling incentive trips for those dates. Throughout the year, however, there are representations known as “entremeses cervantinos” (“entremeses” are short plays), that are more appropriate for incentive visits.
San Miguel Calendar:
January: Winter Chamber Music Festival, General Ignacio Allende and Unzaga’s Birthday.
March- April: Easter, Holy Week , Spring Equinox (21st) by the crossing over the Ingenio Pool (“Charco Ingenio)
