AEROMÉXICO
CELEBRATES 75 YEARS TRAVELLING TO ACAPULCO
- On September 14, 1934
began the history of one of the most emblematic
airlines of our country with its first
flight with destination to Acapulco.
75
years ago, Acapulco of Juárez, Guerrero
was a village with not more than five thousand
inhabitants that he(she) was at the foot
of a bay of enormous beauty, a place of
dream which only a few adventurers of the
capital could enjoy after an unforgettable
trip of two days of duration. On November
7, 1932, a diary published "Very shortly
it will begin the urbanization of the resort
Los Hornos, which proposes making the Driving
Company Acapulco, S.A., constructing at
the same time ten summer residences more,
which will come to add to the already existing
ones in this picturesque place. The above
mentioned resort will be very prompt the
principal attraction of the port for the
tourists and peoples of good taste because
there they will find the whole necessary
comfort to pass the short and the long seasons".
From this moment, Acapulco
turned into a goal to be reached by a good
number of pilots, since it was a paradise
done to the measure for all these pioneers
of the air. Cloyd Clevenger, pilot North
American taken root in Mexico, obtained
a permission to establish an air route of
passengers' service and mail of regular
form between the Mexico City and Acapulco
with scales in Retainer and Chilpancingo.
To
this project Mexico - Acapulco was named
as Air Line, the first flight took off on
December 3, 1932 of the Mexico City, accompanied
by other two planes, on having come to the
field of Los Hornos, were got for a public's
great quantity and local authorities. In
1934, the Mexican businessman Antonio Díaz
Lombardo established a company of aviation.
The new company would show the name of Aircraft
of Mexico, S.A. (Constituted legally on
November 7, 1934), name that would be a

service without scales between the capital
and the port that would last only an hour
forty minutes with a cost of $30.00 pesos

The morning of September 14,
1934, the history began of one of the most
emblematic airlines of our country, Aircraft
of Mexico (Aeroméxico), with the
first flight with destiny Acapulco in the
plane Stinson MR. following the Balbuena-Chalco-Cuautla-Iguala-Chilpancingo-Acapulco
route.
The
Stinson MR. of Aircraft of Mexico came without
misadventures to the field of Los Hornos,
in Acapulco, where it was got by Don Antonio
Díaz Lombardo, as well as representatives
of Civil Aeronautics and the local government
and a public's great quantity, remaining
like that established the air regular service
between the Mexico City and Acapulco. The
growth of the air operations and the biggest
new and modern planes, soon they made the
airfield insufficient in Los Hornos beach,
that on July 11, 1946 there was inaugurated
the airport of Pie de la Cuesta. For the
decade of the 50's, Acapulco reaches the
internationalization and turns into the
icon of the glamour and fashion of the epoch,
at the level of the Riviera Francesa or
Hawaii. In April, 1954 the first direct
service is established to Guadalajara and
to Tijuana from the port.
On April 23, the International
Airport inaugurated Plan of the Amates to
the southwest of the port, close to the
lagoon of Tres Palos. There are established
the first international direct flights to
Los Angeles and New York, thanks to the
Bristol Britannia of Aircraft of Mexico
and there began to arrive at the port emblematic
airlines like Eastern Airlines Braniff International
and Western Airlines.
In
the sixties, Acapulco would continue conquering
to the entire world and Aircraft of Mexico
it does a small honoring to the place that
saw her to be born as airline, on May 10,
1962, there receives its second jet, a Douglas
DC8 series 51, is baptized proudly by the
name of Acapulco, the same day the new plane
inaugurates the age of the jet in the route
Mexico - Acapulco, leading to all the managers
of airport and stations of the system of
Aircraft of Mexico, to a meeting work celebrated
in the port. The progress of Acapulco was
spectacular and it forced the government
to improve the facilities of the airport.
On April 31, 1966 the airport passed to
form a part of the patrimony of Airports
and Auxiliary Services and for decree Juan
N obtained the name of International Airport.

On the first of June, 1974,
Aircraft of Mexico, using AEROMÉXICO's
trade name it introduces the DC10-30, for
277 passengers (22 in the first class) in
the flights of Acapulco to Mexico City and
New York.
In
July, 1978, Acapulco and Aeroméxico
join again in one it hobbles only in order
that the name of Mexico comes to the whole
world, since the bay and beaches of the
port are sedate of the final of the Contest
Miss Universe and the airline takes charge
moving to the competitors as the official
carrier of the event. Nowadays, Acapulco
continues being an icon that recounts to
our country in the mind of the travelers
in the world, contacting with the whole
world for the airway. The relation between
Aeroméxico and Acapulco remains in
force nowadays, and for 54 years, Aircraft
of Mexico it has supported an uninterrupted
shuttle service between this beautiful port
and the Mexico City.
