THOUSANDS
OF GOLFINAS TORTOISES WERE LIBERATED IN
PUERTO VALLARTA
By
the natural beauties Puerto Vallarta is
a paradisiacal place enjoyed so much by
human beings like by different animal species,
among them the tortoise, that from always
has chosen the beaches of this destination
to spawn. The conservation of the ecological
balance means the well-being and the safeguard
of the species humanizes. Following ideal
this one, for 16 years Puerto Vallarta made
own a project for the preservation and protection
of the tortoise, as a whole with dependences
of Government and private companies. The
project is based on a program that consists
in: to expect for the arrival of adult tortoises
to spawn (they go out of the sea in the
night and the morning) later to leave their
eggs in nests that dig in the sand.
Immediately
the people at the expense of the program
gather them and sow them in turtle corrals
where they are jealous watched. Once passed
the 45 to 50 days needed for incubation,
starts the liberation. This is during the
last days of August. The summer and the
autumn are the best seasons to take part
in this wonderful experience, since during
these months, almost every day blossoming
are produced and the little turtles get
free. During the liberation, hotels and
dependences that count with this program,
give information to the guests about why
these tortoises prefer the beaches of Puerto
Vallarta and the dangers that these traverse.
Later the turtles are placed by visitors
and local people, in the sand near where
the waves come, allowing themselves to tackle
their race against the destiny, having to
swim steadily, for four days, to get away
the most possible of the dangerous zone
for them, the coast, since natural predators
of them like the birds. Statistics indicate
that with these efforts only between 3%
and 5% of the liberated tortoises will survive.
Likewise,
as part of this Program of Conservation
and Liberation of golfinas tortoises in
Puerto Vallarta for this 2009, Kellogg Company
Mexico joined with the H. Town hall of Puerto
Vallarta, announced the liberation of 60,000
tortoises, which will be liberated in the
sea, in a period of one year as result of
the campaign "Liberates a Tortoise",
that Kellogg started from April 20 and up
to that of June 20 of the year in process.
Likewise, the donation of $120,000 pesos
granted as support to this ecological institution
to continue with the preservation of this
one species on the verge of extinction.
It is important to remember that programs
and campaigns of this type receive major
transcendence, especially when it thinks
that in their natural environment of every
1,000 tortoises that born, only between
one and five will survive until the adult
age, and these will be late between 8 and
12 years in maturing the sufficient thing
to be able to reproduce by first time and
return to spawn to the same beach where
they were born. The importance of protection
programs of marine tortoises in Mexico,
there in that the Mexican littorals shelter
7 of 8 existing species in the world.
In
every season the tortoises can return 3
times, depositing in every time from 80
to 120 eggs, and in occasions up to 160.
Some of the hotels of Puerto Vallarta that
work in this program of conservation are:
Velas Vallarta Suite & Resort, Sheraton
Buganvilias Resort, Dreams Puerto Vallarta
Resort & Spa, Casa Magna Marriott Puerto
Vallarta Resort & Spa y el Presidente
Inter-Continental. During the season 2008
were liberated more than 81,000 tortoises
golfinas in the beaches of Puerto Vallarta,
assuring with this that the turtle population
should increase approximately in 8,000 tortoises,
of which, the females in 10 years will return
to spawn to the same beach that saw them
to be born.
To
live the experience of freedom a tortoise,
learning of the importance of take care
the nature and the animal species that surround
the human being, especially those who are
already on the verge of extinction, it is
a moment that Puerto Vallarta shares with
local and visitors. Give yourself the opportunity
to be part of this ecological miracle. Come,
Give Freedom a tortoise and live Puerto
Vallarta!
